“Far away, there in the sunshine, are my highest aspirations.  I may not reach them but I can see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead,” Louisa May Alcott

Anyone that knows me personally knows that I am a quote lover.

I actually keep a little book of favourite quotes (given to me by my Aunt Lynn on the day of my high school graduation) with me at all times in case I hear or read one that I find particularly inspiring or uplifting.

The quote above is one of my all-time favourites and I chose to share it with you because I think it exemplifies the experience of the ‘young adult’: that person in college, or right out of college, who is trying to take life day by day, figure out who he/she is and find an answer to the unnerving question, “What am I meant to do with my life?”

I love this quote because it’s able to articulate, in only 31 words, that a person’s success isn’t measured on triumphs and failures alone, but on the journey towards life’s biggest choices, decisions and moments.

I’ve read and re-read this quote countless times since I’ve arrived in Ireland for my postgraduate programme and it never fails to inspire me even in times of great personal doubt. This being said, I’d like to invite you all to leave me a comment with one of your favourite quotes and why it motivates you. Let’s face it, we all need a little boost sometimes. Why not share our pick-me-ups with others? And who knows? Maybe your quote will be the next in my quote book.

Fire away, readers!
